When it’s dark outside and the lights are on in the office, the interior becomes part of the exterior. Thus, the colors and their energy literally come outside the space.
The Kalnciema quarter is a carefully restored neighborhood, composed of 19th century wooden buildings of the late classicist style. Not only is it admired for its attractive historic architecture, it is also a popular venue for pop-up markets, exhibitions, concerts and festivals. With such a prominent location, Annvil’s office needed to match the aesthetical and functional standards of the quarter while responding to the growing needs of the studio.
The design of the 300 m2 large office with 27 workplaces and several meeting rooms involved the replanning and joining of previously separate spaces. The premises needed not only to be inspiring, stimulating and enabling for the employees, but also to work outside office hours as an integral part of the Kalnciema quarter’s leisure environment.
Drawing on research showing the impact different colors have on humans, Annvil’s office was designed to act as a bright antidote the monotonously grey city outside. It serves as a refreshing tonic both for the Annvil team and for those who visit the Kalnciema quarter for evening events, as well as for those who are just passing by on their daily walks.
