G(u)arden Vertical urban garden

G(u)arden is a city garden of re-purposed boxes and local plants obtained from nearby horticulture centers and nurseries. Created in collaboration with urban planners, designers, and environmental and natural science specialists, and grown in a collective effort with the Annvil team. At the end of the season, the harvest was tested for harmful substances by the Institute of Soil and Plant Sciences of the Latvia University of Agriculture and the BIOR lab — and deemed safe to consume.

The experiment encourages city-dwellers of all paths of life to grow food locally while saving resources globally. Located at a busy junction in the Kalnciema quarter, it balances Latvians’ long-standing tradition of growing their own food and their skepticism towards intensive urbanization.
